Senior Skiers

There is No slowing Down Some People!

Just because they are seniors does not mean that their age will slow them down! For Hugh Jones, 70, Harry Booker 68, and Georgia Woods, 74, hitting the slopes at Massanutten provided opportunities to continue with an active, healthy lifestyle.

Hugh, a papraplegic, and Harry a quadriplegic are both very good skiers. They are both competent skiing the mono-ski and the bi-ski. Depending upon the conditions of the slopes and what terrain they want to challenge, Hugh and Harry would take turns using two different types of skis.

While Georgia Woods was our oldest skier, she had the youth, enthusiasm, and determination of skiers who were half her age. Georgia was recovering from a stroke and bipass surgery which she suffered six months prior to ski season. An active lifestyle both prior to and after her acute medical condition enabled her to achieve her goal of skiing standing up. Georgia four-tracked (using two skis and two outriggers) down the slopes with great style.

We look forward to having these senior skiers participate in the MASS programs for many more seasons to come. They are certainly an inspiration to us all.
