Roland's Run - "Paradice"

In Loving Memory of Roland Van Barden
6/09/77 to 1/01/01

By Peggy Van Barden

Roland loved the cold weather, loved snow and really loved to ski. RolandFirst time Roland skied was in 89' (He was 11) youngest guy in the group (Ronnie Dearstyne, Craig Richards & Joe Scott). He wore this outfit on this sit ski - he looked like something from outer space.

Roland didn't like roller coasters or fast rides. But he loved to ski down the slopes, made him feel like a free bird. Roland probably came to RolandMassanutten 5 or 6 times. Two years ago, he was able to use the Bi-ski. He felt proud. Last year he got to ski one of the larger slopes - "Paradice" a Black Diamond. He talked about that night for weeks to everyone who would listen.

On his last run down the slope, he tipped the ski over a few times, but he was even inspired by that. He loved to come to Massanutten. He loved all of the Adaptive Ski School staff and especially, Mark.

Roland and FriendsMany thanks to Mark for his patience and his program. He gives everyone a chance to be all they can be. Keep up the good work.

Thanks again - Mark

Roland Loved you! !
