Snow Sports is the recreation of choice for youth
and teens with chronic medical diagnoses such
as kidney transplant, leukemia, lupus, and
arthritis.
Participation in sports and recreation for persons
with special health needs often requires
flexibility. Because clients may experience
fatigue and other complications secondary to
scheduled therapies and treamtents such as
dialysis, chemotherapy and other required
medical care, adaptations in instruction must
take this into consideration.
However, this need not exclude these kids.
Dear Mark
As you know, children with complicated medical conditions
often are unable to participate in "normal" activities for a
variety of reasons. . . When my group of adolescents with
extensive kidney disease said they wanted to ski, I thought
thought the challenge to be a big one up for the taking. With
your reassurance, support and skill, the physicians and parents
finally consented to the dreams of the children This is where
the fun and extraordinary talent of your staff began.
Your staff, too numerous to mention, impressed me from the
beginning . . . Your staff exhibited flexibility and kindness in
adjusting to meet the needs of the children and in including the
parents . . . The smiles and contented look of accomplishment
will never leave me. For this, I thank you all immenseky. I have
always believed that being disabled is a mindset and that we
can achieve great things with support. When you see it in
action, though it is a true | |
