Mark has dedicated himself to providing greater access outdoor recreation for persons with physical and developmental disabilities, chronic medical diagnoses and special health needs. He has 25 years of experience working in the field of rehabilitation, special education and adaptive physical education. He has served as a consultant to businesses, hospitals, organizations, and schools in the area of program development, risk management, team building and staff development. He has extensive experience with volunteer management and training, grant writing, marketing and public relations. |

Therapeutic Adventures, Inc. is a non-profit 501 © 3 organization committed to providing greater access to adaptive outdoor recreation for persons of all ages who have a disability (physical or developmental), a chronic illness, or other special health needs. With the goal to improve the quality of life of all persons, our unique and integrative approach to adaptive outdoor recreation (Adaptive Water Sports, Adaptive Snow Sports, and Adaptive Wilderness Sports) is broken down into three service areas: Outdoor Independence Training Centers, Adaptive Outdoor Safety Council, Freedom Outdoors. |

Associate Director - Madison House
Student Volunteer Center at UVa
Madison House is an independent, non-profit organization that promotes leadership development, inspires volunteer service, and cultivates relationships among University of Virginia students and the community. Madison House a strong history of partnering with a wide variety of schools, non-profit agencies placing 3,000 student volunteers into the local community to provide weekly volunteer service. In this position, Mark managed the leadership development and program development of 16 programs with 70 Community Partner agencies. He oversees 160 student Program Directors who lead our student volunteers as they address the diverse - educational, social, medical, cultural, environmental, recreational other developmental needs in our community. |

Torchbearer-Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Torch Relay
On December 21, 2001 Mark was honored to carry the Olympic flame in Fall Church, VA. He was one of the select group of 11,500 inspirational persons chosen from over 100,000 names submitted - because of his inspirational work with the disabled. On December 22, 2001 he was among invited Torchbearer guests invited to a reception at the White House. |

Recipient of the coveted Jefferson Award given by The American Institute of Public Service (AIPS)
Considered by many as the Nobel Prize for volunteerism and public service. Recognized for his life time commitment to providing greater access to adaptive skiing, adaptive outdoor programs and other specialized rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities, Mark was one of fifty-one regional persons recognized at the National Awards Ceremonies in Washington DC June 2002. |

Awarded the National Ski Patrol - Silver Merit Star in 1994. Chosen as Runner Up for Outstanding National Instructor.
Awarded the National Ski Patrol - Southern Division Outstanding Instructor Ski Patroller - 1993-1994.

Who's Who In Rehabilitation - Mark was awarded to "Who's Who in Rehabilitation - 1984.
Madison House Community Partner of the Year - In 2000, he received the prestigious Community Partner of the Year Award for his work with Massanutten Adaptive Snow Sports.
Designed Central Virginia's first accessible fitness trail for persons with mobility and/or visual impairments.
Mark has been published in a number of professional journals and has presented at workshops and conferences at the state level, nationally and internationally.
