Dear Friends,

I am pleased to report that Outdoor Independence Training Centers - Massanutten Adaptive Snow Sports had yet another successful session. Mother Nature blessed us with wonderful winter conditions - snow, precipitation and cold weather. This enabled our expert mountain crew to groom and prepare the slopes so that we could offer quality outdoor recreation for our customers.

With more than two decades of continuous service providing adaptive snow sports instruction and other services to enrich the independence of our clientele, Massanutten Adaptive Snow Sports (MASS) is a favorite destination for many who desire a unique approach to experiencing the outdoors. Individuals and families came from all over the country to vacation and enjoy the services offered at Massanutten including those specially offered for persons with disabilities.

Highlights

  • In June 2003, Mark Andrews, Founder/Director of the program received the coveted Jefferson Award from the American Institute for Public Service. http://www.aips.org Recognized by many as the Nobel Prize for volunteerism, Mark was nominated for more than two decades of commitment to the field of rehabilitation and outdoor recreation. He was among 54 other individuals in the country to receive this award.
  • MASS continued its strong partnership with Madison House - Student Volunteer Center at the University of Virginia. http://www.student.virginia.edu/~madison
  • MASS continued to partner with many major medical centers, rehabilitation facilities, and therapeutic recreation programs.
  • MASS continued the commitment to provide leadership training and volunteer opportunities for university students at University of Virginia, Medical College of Virginia, Longwood College and James Madison University
  • MASS continues to support, to endorse and to partner with Professional Ski Instructors of America http://psia.org and the National Ski Patrol http://nsp.org
  • Our annual Independence Cup - Adaptive Snow Sports Race and Awards Celebration was a tremendous success.

  • Therapeutic Adventures, Inc., in cooperation with Massanutten Adaptive Snow Sports has been working to set up the Adaptive Outdoor Safety Council.
  • Bryce Powel, one of our student volunteers is a graduate of the University of Virginia - School of Architecture. He has designed an architecturally unique building that will serve as Outdoor Independence Training Centers - Lodge at Massanutten Resort. Please check out how you can help us to achieve Independence with this project!
  • PLEASE TAKE TIME TO VIEW THE ENCLOSED TABLES WHICH PROVIDE A BREAKDOWN OF THE SERVICES WE OFFER.

Special heartfelt thanks to all the adaptive skiers, the families, the volunteers, the medical/rehab and recreation programs, and the businesses that support our efforts! Without your continued courage, commitment, dedication and generosity, we could not offer these valuable services.

God Bless,

Mark
